Terms of Use

Purpose

Gavelogue provides owner-maintained object-passport recordkeeping, arithmetic, document organization, and decision-support tools for collectors. “Passport” is a descriptive metaphor for a portable record; it is not government-issued or proof of identity, authenticity, title, value, or legal status. Gavelogue does not place bids, act as an auctioneer or marketplace, hold funds or property, authenticate or appraise objects, provide insurance, or give legal, tax, customs, investment, or conservation advice.

Information only; no professional advice or recommendation

Gavelogue is provided for general informational, educational, recordkeeping, and recreational collecting purposes only. It does not provide financial, investment, legal, tax, customs, conservation, insurance, appraisal, authentication, title, provenance, or other professional advice. It does not create a professional-client or fiduciary relationship, and no calculation, extraction, checklist, reminder, record, or export is a recommendation to bid, buy, sell, hold, import, export, insure, or value any object.

Outputs depend on information you enter or select and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated. They do not verify or guarantee authenticity, attribution, provenance, ownership or title, condition, legality, value, future value, marketability, or investment return.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for confirming original sources, auction terms, premiums, taxable bases, shipping, duties, fees, condition, provenance, authenticity, title, legality, deadlines, value, and suitability. Compare every output with the original source and consult appropriately qualified professionals before acting.

Your content

You retain responsibility for and rights in the records and files you add. You give Gavelogue only the limited permission needed to host, process, and display content you choose to save in the desktop companion. You must have permission to store and share that material and must not use the service to violate privacy, intellectual-property, cultural-property, export, sanctions, or other laws.

Third-party sources and services

Gavelogue is independent of third-party auction houses and marketplaces and is not endorsed by them. It does not access a third-party account, request account credentials, reuse an authenticated session, bypass access controls, or retrieve, scrape, or monitor listings. You choose and provide source material through supported device features. A saved source link is a reference and is not fetched by the app.

Automatic transcription and extraction are best-effort and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated when a source changes. Compare suggestions with the original source and correct or enter details manually. You are responsible for complying with third-party terms and having the rights needed to store or share imported material. The availability of an intake path does not imply compatibility, affiliation, endorsement, or permission from a source.

Gavelogue does not perform foreign-exchange conversion. One selected currency applies to every monetary amount in a record. You are responsible for converting amounts independently before combining listing prices, plans, fees, invoices, insurance values, or other figures.

Auction game

The Closest to the Gavel game is an independent educational and recreational experience using attributed historical auction-result snapshots linked to their source records. A result for one sold lot is not a current valuation, price prediction, appraisal, or evidence that another object will achieve a similar result. Third-party names, lot images, and catalog information remain the property of their respective owners and are shown only to identify and discuss the cited source; no affiliation or endorsement is implied.

Availability and backups

The iPhone launch edition stores data locally. The optional desktop companion stores its records under your signed-in web account. Those collections do not automatically synchronize. You are responsible for device and account security and for keeping any independent records or exports you need. Features may change, and no uninterrupted or error-free operation is promised.

Warranty and liability

To the extent permitted by law, Gavelogue is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, noninfringement, availability, or results. To the extent permitted by law, Gavelogue and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or lost-profit damages arising from use of the service or a collecting decision. These terms are governed by Ohio law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Contact

Use the Gavelogue support page. A monitored public contact will be posted there before these terms are adopted and the app is submitted.
